Oh The Sweetness!

Almost lunch time and I'm just getting to work. Started my day at the clinic with a glucose test. It requires a 12 hour fast followed by a bloodtest, after which you have to down a glass of super sweet orange syrup. Then its a two hour wait before the final bloodtest. I showed up at 6:30am and there were already 30 or more people ahead of me. What, did people sleep there? After I got my number I went to the receptionist and asked whether they did perform this type of test, otherwise I would have to head off to the hospital. She said yes but that if my number wasn't called before 8:15 I could skip the line and get myself checked in. The clinic only offers bloodtesting for only 4 hours in the morning. My number came up just prior to 8:15 so no one got their knickers in a twist that I got to skip the line. My major objective has been completed for the day. Now I find myself all a jitter from too much sugar. Good thing it's lunch time.

BTW tomorrow is Canada Day, our national holiday. No work for me and then that's it for the civic holidays till Labor day in September. Can you believe it is time to say good by to June? Not exactly sure what the plans are, DH invited friends over for a BBQ, no one has yet to confirm and he just told me he has to go to the office for a couple of hours. Hmmmmmmm makes preping very difficult.

We have a function tonight in downtown Montreal. It's a 50th Birthday celebration and art exhibition all in one. This is going to be different. Got to run and get caught up on some actual work. Hope you have a great day.

Broken Record

It was a rainy weekend, followed by a rainy week ahead. Goodness me this is pathetic. Spent the weekend indoors as a result, watched "The Reader", which proved to be an interesting story. Seems we are working our way through the Academy Award nominees and winners. What else is there to do on a rainy day. Saturday night we went to see "The Proposal" with friends. It was a very cute movie. Sunday was a bit of a rush as DH had travel. Slepted in a bit because it was so miserable, made an early lunch and dropped him at the airport. Stopped by the book store to find a something on Diabietes, but nothing very outstanding caught my eye.

Came home and just relaxed in the quiet with Lola. The weekend was so relaxing that I am exhausted. Does that make any sense? Feels like I ran a marathon. Hopfully your weekend proved alot more fun and productive than mine.

The Weekend Arrives

I'm a little lost this week having had Wednesday off. Started my day with a visit to the Doctor as I had some blood work done two weeks ago. It seems my sugar levels are out of whack, and I have to go back and be retested with a more indepth test. The first words out of his mouth eat less sugar, "but I don't eat sugar" is what I tell him. As a matter of fact I don't like sugary or sweet things, I don't drink sodas or use sugar in my coffee or tea and I hadn't had any alcohol for over a month. The only thing sweet thing I do eat are fruits and at that I try and limit those to two a day. Goodness me...... diabetic diet here I come. It's all a little perplexing to say the least.

Bottom line lose weight!

Wishing you all a wonderful and fun filled weekend.

Bad Habit

Some people are just so comfortable with who they are. Spending time with my girlfriends made me realize I waste way too much time worrying about fitting in. It is easy to hung up on my own imperfections. When I stop and think about it, a real friend is not looking for perfection they do not give a hoot about how much I weigh or what size I wear, they like me for all that I am.

I wonder if I am ever going to learn this lesson and stop all the negative self talk. It easy for me to say someone else is great but when it comes to myself, I just can't do it. This has got to stop.

It's time I learned to learn to celebrate me? I hope you realize how great you are.

Mid Week Vacation

Tomorrow is the biggest holiday here in Quebec, everything will be shut down tight. Party starts at 5 today. Usually we don't attend any of the functions, but I don't mind having a day off. I do however have plans to meet up with my dinner group of ladies, for a house warming lunch. One of them just moved out to the country and has invited us over to have a look. Everyone is bring a dish or two. I hear rumors it might be a sunny day with temps in the 30's Celcius. Keep your fingers crossed that the weatherman is right on this.

DH and I also have plans for supper as one of our close friends turns 50 tomorrow. Looks like it going to be a very busy day.

Take care and see you back here on Thursday.

Letting Go!!!!

Well well I did something out of character. I made a fool out of myself in front of crowded room. Saturday evening we went out with friends to a Brazilian Barbecue. During the course of the evening they brought out Samba dancers. When they approached the table I kindly offer my friend to dance with her and she said "no way now you have to dance too". Well I did, and it was fun and stupid and I did not fall off the face of the earth from shear embarassment. There was only 1 glass of wine involved so I can't blame it on the booze. Must admit it was fun just to let go and be silly. Guess I should do that a bit more often.

I did work on my relaxation, only picking up the broom to clean once. Had my haircut but nothing else because I booked at the last minute. Plus I need to go back in a couple of weeks and have it done for my vacation. Also got a bit of reading in. Have you ever noticed or maybe it's only me but as soon as you get interested in a book whoever is in the room with you all of a sudden becomes a Chatty Cathy. Because it was another lousy day weather wise we rented a video "New In Town" it was odd but cute. On Sunday I spent some time with my Dad, took him for a drive and coffee. Since I wasn't home to prepare lunch and again the weather was bad a for BBQ, DH decided to opt out for chinese food. Afterwards we settled back on the couch and watched "Grand Torino", which was a surprisely good movie. We were almost at the end of the video when we got a call from friends saying they wanted to go to the Theatre to see "The Hangover" and would we like to go. Usually we don't like to go out on Sunday night because of work, but we threw caution to the wind and joined them. It had some funny stuff, but its a guy film for sure.

Now doesn't that sound like a relaxing weekend?

Summer Is Only Two Days Away!

Spring is heading out the door on Sunday and it has been cool no cold and wet. Everyone is down in the dumps about it. Hard to believe we are almost halfway through 2009.

Looks like a calm weekend. I have a hair appointment extra early Saturday morning. It was the spur of the moment thought so I got stuck with the first appointment of the day. We had plans with a group of friends to go biking, but because of the weather its not going to happen. Might just get some reading done instead. Sunday is Father's Day. Will have to figure out something to do with Dad in the morning. In the afternoon we have plans with DS for lunch.

Going to try my best and work on relaxing. I hear a video calling my name. Have a great weekend.

Everyone Is Doing The Great Escape

Slowly but surely people are disappearing. The schools are done for the summer this Friday and friends with kids have already packed up and left for a better part of the summer. I have 6 weeks to sit at my desk and look out the window before it's my turn. Our weather is struggling for the most part, there has been alot of rain. Once the sun does comes out we all go a bit gaga.

Next week we have a statutory holiday on Wednesday in celebration of Quebec's national holiday, following Wednesday July 1st is Canada's Birthday. Too bad they were not set up to be held on the 3rd Friday in June and the 1st Monday in July. Neither is a move able holiday so a long weekend is out of the question. DH will be working both days as our US clients are open, our holidays rarely jive.

Seems I have run out of steam for work. I'm itching to read a good book and get lost in an adventure. But don't think the boss would approve of such behavior. Read anything interesting lately, let me know.

Learning to Relax Does Not Come Easy

This pictures really reflects how my mind was working at 6:30 this morning. I was out for a walk with the dog and instead of relishing in the beautiful morning the race was on. No matter how hard I tried to stop the nonsense, my mind would jump from one thing to another. I tried taking a few deep breaths, did some yoga "ommmmm" ing but was constantly interrupted.

Recently I have been told that I must learn to relax. My immediate thought was yeah I will get around to doing that once I finish with the renovations. Then it was after I finished cleaning up the mess. Each night I go to sleep with an impossible to do list. No wonder I wake up with a rush going on in my mind. I do believe I am stuck in overdrive.

Being stressed and overworked is like being trained for some crazy marathon. If you've been running it forever taking a break from it would risk the possibility of not be able to handle it anymore. What happens then?

Something Always Has To Give

Remember last week when I was complaining about not eating enough giving me a headache. Well I am pretty sure that it wasn't only food related. It seems that I have worked my way into a sinus infection. I have all the tell tale symptoms, the pain, pressure, sensitivity to light and a lovely never ending headache to boot. My Dr is away on vacation this week and I have an appointment next Friday. In the mean time I am going to try some home remedies, hopefully I will be able to cure myself.

I would drag myself down to the clinic but they are full to the brim with people and I don't want to sit for hours on end. It is something that I get all the time and its too bad that they don't just keep an open prescription on file so you wouldn't have to waste going to the doctor. One time I went to the clinic and the Dr asked me what was wrong, so I told him I have a sinus infection. He said how do you know? I replied to him, "have you ever had a toothache, will I am sure once you have had one the next time around you know exactly what it is". Just the same he insisted and sent me for an x-ray which in turn confirmed my diagnosis.

Tune in tomorrow to see if I have preformed a miracle. Take care.

Choices

this weekend were less than stellar. I believe Friday's post was a lead up for an excuse to indulge. I'd like to know where my conscience went. Its not that I didn't think about what I ate it was like ahhh what the heck go on have a bite. No one to blame but myself for this one. How silly and disappointing. On the good side I was active for the better part of the weekend doing the last of the Spring cleaning.

We finally had some sun and warmish weather for a complete weekend. All I could think about was getting the house settled once and for all. In actuality the house is a neverendom of work, but with the major things cleaned I should be spending a lot less of my time being the maid. Hopefully with this little more time on my hands I can find some time to relax.

It wasn't all work this weekend. DH and I did manage to get out and see Angels and Demons. I read the book a long time ago and although it was interesting I had forgotten the story. The movie proved to be entertaining. On Sunday DS came over and we went out to a local restaurant for my Birthday. I had the veal and veggies, only ate half and brought the leftovers for my lunch today.

Hopefully today will be better and I will find my resolve to eat less!

My Quest To Eat Less

Has left me with a headache each day. Although I lost weight the first week, this week I have been holding steady. BIG SIGH! I love the way the Doctor made it sound so simple "just eat less"!

Well I am eating less, averaging around 1000 calories per day. Not so simple after all. There are so many theories out there and I sure someone is thinking I am probably not eating enough and my body is holding on to the weight because I am in starvation mode. When I was going to the dietitian I was averaging around 1100-1300 calories a day. When the Doctor tells me to eat less what am I supposed to do?

It is supposed to be simple, it should be simple, but it is not!

The Day After The Night Before

and you will find me with a big goofy grin on my face. Every woman should have a group of girlfriends that they can just hang around with and have a couple of good laughs. The spirit soars, troubles fade, all is right in the world.

I (we) need to do these types of thing more often. It is so easy to get lost in the everyday hustle and bustle and neglect the things that make us soar. It would be nice to have this sense of well being each and everyday. It's pretty inexpensive therapy when you come to think of it.

Hope you are having a wonderful day and if you are feeling low just plug in the kettle and invite a friend over and you will be feeling better before you know it.

I'm Touched

by the wishes I received here as well as those throughout the course of the day that don't come from this blog. It is nice to know you somehow make a mark in someone else's life and you are special to them. So thanks very much to everyone for making my day.

There will be a celebratory dinner with my girlfriends tonight. We always gather on such occasions without fail. These are the people you can count on when the going gets rough. The people you chose to be friends can be surprisingly the most comforting. I hope I never let them down.

48 And Counting!

Where the heck has the time gone? I'm another year older and let's hope the wiser. No special plans for the day. Going out with the girls tomorrow and will celebrate with DS on Sunday. All the best to everyone!

I Like Things Orderly

it makes me feel so much better when things are not cluttered. It also seems to make life a little easier and there's alot less time spent cleaning up. Our home has had a major spring cleaning this year and the house does feel so much lighter for it. I'm looking forward to getting to relax a bit more now that most of the work is behind. We still managed to spend the better part of Saturday picking at the little odds and ends. I'm happy to say that there are only two entry doors that need to be order then we are done with the kitchen renos. Finally I have wipe down the dust in the living/dinning room and the tv room and then we can safely say that the Spring cleaning has been completed.

Did manage to get out and meet up with our friends on Saturday evening. We went to the Bogette, known for it brick pizza oven. DH and I shared a small thin crust grilled veggie pizza. For dessert we all shared pizza crust topped with nutella, it was heaven! Fine dinning at its best. Other than that it was a quiet weekend. Just what the Doctor ordered. We finally got to sit and watch a video "The Wrestler", sad but interesting. It was sunny for the most part, it did sprinkle of few rain drops here and there. The temperature was way too cool however, thus the motivation for getting on the couch with a blanket and watching a video.

Looks like I got things caught up at work. Everything has come together nicely. Hope your day has been good too.

I Do Believe It is Friday!

My day actually started out with a nice walk in the sun with Ms Lola, then things kind of went sour. When I got back home put the key in the lock and it snapped off. I only had my walking key so I was locked out of the house. Had to call DH and see if he had a key to any of the other doors of the house. Fortunately he did so he drove back home from the office and let me in. Then we proceeded to take the security lock apart and get it working again. Lets just say we have issues working together on maintenace repairs. Mr does not have much patiences and always wants to be in the drivers seat. It usually ends up an exercise in frustration. This little disaster made me late for work. When I finally got to the office I had a pissy message from someone who's account is way passed due. They basically told me to take a piss, and when they get round to paying they will. GRRRRRRRR. Went to the bank and almost got hit in the parking lot. Do hope that this is the end of the sour note.

Looks like we are finally going to have a nice sunny weekend. It has been a long time coming, hope it all comes true. We have plans to meet up with friends Saturday evening at a restaurant in Little Italy. Going to finish up the kitchen and find some time to relax. Hope you all have lots of fun this weekend.

Up To My Eyeballs In Work

There seems to be a pile of work here on my desk today. Another month come and gone. To tell you the truth I'm not much in the mood to work once I get to the office. I've been getting up early and spending a couple of hours before the office trying to get the house back in order and by the time I make it into work I'm just not into doing too much. Today there was no other option but to tackle some of the paperwork before that became too out of hand.

Taking a bit of a break, now going to see what fun you have all been up to. All the best.

Weigh In Wednesday

I'm down 4.20 pounds from last week. That brings me under my pre-trip weight.
Still very busy finishing up with the home renos. Here are a few photos of the transformation. Enjoy.

The Before Shots

The After Photos. We went with a few shades darker than the original pine color. The quality of the photos could be better, but you will get an idea of how it has changed. I am hoping to upgrade the appliances but that is going to have to wait a few more months. Still have some work to do on the powder room which is adjacent to the kitchen and then we are almost done. Still have to order the new doors for the exit and the garage entry. But the house is taking shape and the camping has come to an end.
