Last night at supper my close friend mentioned that I joined the Half Marathon and thought it was wonderful. I had absolutely no intention of mentioning it or talking about it. An acquaintance in the group had the following comment, "Oooooh you're WALKING" said in a way to sound as if walking made it insignificant. Now I was not out to get a pat on the back, but to dismissed it and to say "oooooh wellllll that's ok", made me want to give her a slap. She's a runner and it seems that running is the only thing that counts. The other ladies are not into exercise at all. Maybe this is her glory, who knows but I thought it was rather typical of how some people just want to take you down. All that being said I still had a good time getting out and doing something different. Just wanted to vent because it was a stupid comment and it did bug me.

Heck... you walk girl!!! Walking is much better in my opinion. Runners often get injuries and have to stop but walkers can walk for years and years. Doctors actually prefer people to walk. Don't ever underestimate the effort or energy used to walk. Good on you.
Agree with Lynda! Much better to walk than run - less stress on the feet, knees etc. and you can see and enjoy everything around you at a more leisurely pace. Take no notice of her.............
It's a half marathon whichever way you look at it! I'd want to slap her too!
Just like being vegan/vegetarian, there are some crazies out there who give the rest of us a bad name :)
You should be SO proud that you're up for this challenge. It's such a fantastic distance to do and you're going to have the time of your life! xxx

People make stupid comments all the time.
Tis true, walking is much more healthy than running.
I think it's fantastic what you are doing!
Good luck with the marathon!
