Leaping Today, Crawling Tomorrow

Source

Hope you are enjoying the extra day. Its just a regular day in these parts, no big deal. Holding our breath for tomorrow with March coming in like a lion. Predictions for 15-25 cm of snow, starting later today. DD is arriving this afternoon and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she gets her before the trouble starts. Its an awful highway between here and there, since it is all out in the open and the snow just drifts across making it like a skating rink. I traveled it once long ago in a snowstorm and vowed never to do it again, lesson learned.

Tonight there is a function at the Clinic, I signed up for it months ago and must attend. Other than that no other big plans for Leap Day. Feeling a little more energized today, although I spent a few hours last night entertaining Insomnia, thankfully I went back to sleep around 4 and the two hours of sleep seems to have paid off. Maybe the boss will take pity on me tomorrow and give me the day off, nothing better than a snow day.

Hello Winter

So the storm arrived and it was a relatively painless event since it took place on a Friday. Unfortunately, we are in for more foul weather for the better part of this week. It was so tempting to think we were almost done and but along with the snow the temperature has taken a dive into the minus double digits. Winter is hanging in there for a little while longer.

It was a nice weekend all the same. Spent most of Saturday in PJ's just puttering around the house. Later on in the evening we braved the mucky weather and headed into Montreal to attend a Comedy night. Sunday morning instead of waking up early for the clinic I decided to go it alone. Although I almost broke my neck a couple of times because the roads were in such bad shape I got my mileage done. DS joined us for lunch and after he left we got caught up on some programs that we PVR'd. Afterwards I spent the night watching the Oscars and voila here we are at Monday morning.

A very simple but fun weekend.

Wait For It!

Looks like poor old Lola is going to have to wait a little longer for some fun. The storm has got hung up somewhere and we are in a holding pattern for now. Here's an old picture of Ms Lola beans having a good old time rolling around in the snow.

I'm hoping to get out of the office early in celebration of Friday. Fortunately, I have most of my work done and am ready to go go go. Fingers crossed that no emergencies come up and I'm stuck here.

Walking clinic went well. Chris since you asked, yes unfortunately Ms Crazy Pants is back, she is a good friend of the leader. One of the ladies I chat with commented how she felt that there were definite cliques in the group and it was getting somewhat unpleasant. I'm not sure why there is a need to segregate and exclude, typical mean girl crap. Goodness you would think at our age we would be done with this kind of thing, but not so. In the end we both concluded that if it remained as such we were not going to sign up again. Not surprisingly I had already come to that exact conclusion a few weeks ago. Some people need to be part of a group in order to find the motivation to get out and exercise, I do not have a problem doing it on my own and sometime find the constraints of doing it only at a certain time inconvenient. The initial idea was to go out and have some fun, but since that's being tainted it feels rather laborious. However, I have committed to the Half Marathon and I'm obliged to see the training through. All this to say, its has been a learning experience where I managed to improved my technique and confirm that I am indeed a good solid walker. So that's the scoop on the Walking Group.

Have a good weekend, see you back here on Monday.

Don't Put That Shovel Away Just Yet

Source

The dry spell is coming to an end with a Winter storm heading our way. It's supposed to come in sometime tonight and last through till Saturday. Well..... I should not complain as it has been quite awhile since we have had any accumulation. Its just a little reminder that Winter's not over yet. It never fails whenever they widen our street, (cut back the snowbanks) it guarantees a storm is on the way. Lola is the only one who get a kick out of it, she runs around the back yard like a fool. If I was motivated I would get all my shopping done today, but meh ....why bother.

Training started again last night. There was a bit of waffling on my part because my back has been causing me pain. In the end I opted to go and afterwards I slathered myself with some antiphlogistine cream. Unfortunately it stinks to high heaven and I smell like an old lady, something like a cross between mothballs and mint. On the plus side the pulsing has stopped and my sinuses are clear. Round two tonight, hopefully before the snow starts.

For some reason it has been a rough week, Friday is looking pretty good snowstorm included. Now I just have to get through today.

Fat Tuesday! Otherwise Known As

Source

When I was young we went to the church this evening for a big pancake dinner. Although over the years I have become more of a silent observer I still made a point to make it a special event at our home. The kids thought it was great fun to have breakfast for supper. We usually ended up inviting a couple of their friends to join in the fun. The kids might be gone but I will still honor the long standing tradition and whip some pancakes along with the some bacon and eggs for tonight. Surprisingly there is something so comforting about pancakes and eggs. Back on track tomorrow.

Not much else on the agenda for today. Its still cold out there but I must admit that I'm being taunted by the lovely sunshine from my window. It's given me itchy feet to go somewhere, unfortunately that's not going to happen. FYI the snow is still piled high and deep, the only good thing about it is that we really haven't had too much foul weather and whatever snow we had has just stayed. I am truly thankful to the kinder winter, but I am oh so ready for it to be over.

I got nothing else for you today except to wish you all an enjoyable Fat Tuesday.

New Week Begins

It was fun to have little man and DD for the weekend. He's at a very busy stage and wants to be on the move. Let's say I got plenty of exercise. I'm looking forward to warmer weather and getting him outside the house for some fresh air. Today sitting at my desk is looking good. Its a holiday for some but unfortunately not here. No breaks on the agenda till Easter.

Again another weekend passes in a blink of an eye. Early Saturday morning we met up for brunch with family. In the evening I hosted friends for supper. Sunday morning I chased and played with you know who. Somewhere along the line I made lunch for the family. DS came by for a visit and DD headed home. By the time the house emptied out all I wanted to do was sit down and put my feet up. We watched a video, and followed that up with the "Amazing Race" and sadly the weekend was done.

Although 90% of the weekend was spent at home I did not have one second to get bored. The house is a little worse for wear and I'll be spending the next few days trying to catch up, but its nice to have the family come by. I can honestly say that this is one of the best times of life.

13.1 Miles or 21.1 KM

Source

Tonight marks the end of half marathon training. All that training wasn't as bad as I had thought. I knew I could walk but there was still much self doubt as to whether I could go the distance. In the end it turned out to be fun and challenging, it also helped me to know I'm in shape. Surprisingly the weeks past quickly and if the Marathon was tomorrow I would be more than ready to do it. But since it doesn't take place till the end of May I have signed up to do it all again. The next session ends just in time for my Half Marathon. The group is getting together tonight for a dinner AKA graduation celebration, should be good for a few laughs as most of the ladies are quite entertaining. Next week the hard work starts all over again, but thankfully the days are getting longer and the weather should improve over time. Although winter is far from over, I'm hoping we are done with the deep freeze walks.

It feels like Friday, waiting on DD and my Little man. She decided to come down a day early because it just not worth the effort to drive down for just the weekend. Can't wait to get me some hugs and kisses. Too bad I still have to work tomorrow.

Work Interrupted

Source

As soon as I opened my computer and it would not connect to the internet etc I knew the day was off to a rough start. Tried to get help with it but no one would listen. Finally when other computers started to go down the problem was quickly resolved. Now its time to play catch up.

Monday Rolls Around Again

Source

Had a busy Friday, trying to get my work done before heading to the hospital. Dad was released in the afternoon, but by the time I got his papers and drugs stored out it was the end of the day. Looks like they were unable to find out the cause of the hemorrhage but he's back to his old self.

Saturday morning we ended up working. When I finally broke free it was time for a long walk in hopes of relaxing. In the afternoon company come by and in the evening we went to visit a sick friend. On Sunday I opted to skip the walking clinic as I did far more on my on the day before. Basically puttered around prepping lunch and getting caught up on the house. Then in the afternoon more friends came over and by the time they left it was time for bed.

It was just your basic weekend but it past in a blink of an eye. We barely had a moment to sit down and relax. Guess life is good.

Mid Week Mid Winter Blahs

Source

This is a pretty good likeness of me at my desk. Our office is located in a Warehouse style building which is quite dated. It is beyond drafty in the winter and I have a low threshold for keeping warm, some days it almost feels as though I'm sitting outside. I don't like wishing time away but I certainly can't wait for warmer weather. We are heading into a major deep freeze with temps heading down into the -20's C. Oh Yeah!

Dad is still in the hospital and I'm trying to juggle things to make time to be there daily. So far they haven't found anything and I'm not sure how much longer he will have to stay. Thankfully he has finally been transferred to a room. He spent the last 5 days in Emergency on a stretcher. Every time he is in the hospital all I can think is how awful and in humane the medical system is. The hallways are filled with people on stretchers from the Emergency overflow. Not to mention the people waiting in the Emergency lobby for up for sometimes up to 24 hours before being seen by a Doctor. Its shameful and cruel, all I can think of is keeping healthy!

2012 has been off to a rather rough start. Things can only get better.

20KM

Source

This weekend marked the end of the Half Marathon training. As I had missed the last couple of classes I felt that there was no way that I could miss out on this walk. It was going to be the ultimate test for me to see if I had over estimated my ability to compete in the up coming Half Marathon in May.

The weekend started off on rough footing. Spent most of Friday in the hospital with my father. It did not look good there for awhile but he seems to have rebounded again. DD came for the weekend with little man. She was sick with a bad cold and needed some TLC. Saturday took care of DD as best I could and went to visit Dad. Spent most of Saturday night wrestling with whether I should go to the walk or not. Got up on Sunday and DD convinced me she would be alright, between her and DH to manage baby.

It took close to 3 hours including stops at lights and a bathroom break. It turned out that I was the pace leader for the entire walk. Looks like I'm good to go for the Half Marathon with just 1.5 KM to add. This week I will sign up for the next Marathon Training session beginning on February 16th and ending just in time for the real Marathon. Its a relief to know I can do it and at a good pace.

Happy Groundhog Day

Source

If only it were true! Winter is here however long it is. DH always says March is the end of winter, I beg to differ. Last year March was unbearably cold and snowy. Surviving winter is a challenge at best and for me the older I get the worse is seems. On the bright side the days are getting noticeably longer now that the sun sets just after 5. Well really its not a sunset as its mostly grey out there but for all intensive purposes its a sunset.

Contemplating purchasing a loto ticket and of course winning millions then packing a bag and heading someplace warm and sunny. Anyone have a sure way of picking the winning ticket?

Keep well and have a good day!
